What is BibleMaven?
Maven is a Yiddish word for a knowledgeable enthusiast on a subject. The Yiddish word maven comes from a Hebrew word, mevin, which means ‘one who understands.’ A BibleMaven is enthusiastic about leading others to understand the Bible in order to know God better. A BibleMaven is not an expert or know-it-all but one who diligently seeks to understand the truth found in the Bible and who wants to share that truth with others. A BibleMaven wants to be well prepared to share the love of Jesus Christ with others. A BibleMaven wants to be ready to do good works for others whenever need arises.
The Bible claims that we need to be equipped for doing God’s work. “All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17, NRSV) Doing good deeds is nice, but being thoroughly equipped to do them by God is infinitely better and multiplies our usefulness.
